Reference or Target Ranges

  • <135 – Negative – Absence of detectable VZV IgG antibodies. Does not rule out acute infection during incubation and early stages.
  • >165 – Positive – Presence of detectable VZV IgG antibodies. Does not indicate active infection or stage of disease.
  • 135 – 165 Equivocal – Repeat the test. If repeated result is equivocal, a second collection should be tested.

The result alone is not diagnostic and should be considered with other clinical data and patient symptoms. Results from immunosuppressed patient should be interpreted with caution. Performance characteristics with individuals vaccinated with VZV (ROD strain) have not been established.
