Patient Preparation
The patient should be given clear written instructions concerning the collection and transport of the specimen by the laboratory including a patient questionnaire, sterile container and transport bag
Special Collection Instructions
- The sample should be collected after a minimum of 48 hours but not longer than 7 days of sexual abstinence.
- The name of the patient, the period of abstinence, date/time of collection, completeness of collection and any transport difficulties should be recorded.
- The specimen should be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour of collection and be protected from extreme temperatures.
