No special patient preparation required
Special Collection Instructions
- A fetal screen must be performed on a post-partum sample. If possible the sample should be more than 1 hour post-partum.
- The mother must be Rho negative and the baby must be Rho positive.
- A screen for a fetal-maternal hemorrhage must be performed to insure that sufficient RhIg is given to protect the patient from immunization to the Rho (D) antigen. IF THE RHIG IS TO BE GIVEN POST-PARTUM, THIS TEST MUST BE PERFORMED ON A POST-PARTUM SAMPLE.
