Methodology/Method Description Werfen ACL TOPS - SCT uses phospholipid dependent antibody reagents while DRVVT testing utilizes diluted Russell’s viper venom for the detection of lupus anticoagulants in plasma.

Panel Components

  • PT/INR
  • PTT
  • SCT Screen
  • DRVVT Screen

Reflex Testing

  • SCT Confirm (if SCT screen >1.16)
  • DRVVT Confirm (if DRVVT Screen >1.20)

Additional Information/Important Notes

It is not recommended to perform the LA detection on samples from patients receiving heparin.

After being spun down twice, separate plasma into 2 aliquot tubes and transport to University Hospital Laboratory frozen on dry ice.

Useful For

The Silica Clotting Time (SCT) and DRVVT reagent tests systems are designed for the qualitative detection of lupus anticoagulants in the plasma. The diagnosis of a lupus anticoagulant (LA) requires performance and interpretation of complex coagulation testing, as well as correlation with available clinical information. No single coagulation test can identify or exclude LA.

Special Handling

Centrifugation: 5 minutes at 5000 rpm. Plasma must be centrifuged twice
(double spun) to remove platelets. (<10,000 mm3)
